“Sekai wa semai desu, ne.” This translates as, “The world is narrow, isn’t it?” It’s their version of the common saying, “It’s a small world.” So when a new medical clinic opened up last year, locals queued up to tour the place when it held its ‘open day’ event (March 2016).
Mandy and I had seen the building from the outside only as it was being built, and we honestly thought that it was a ‘guitar clinic’. I.E. A guitar/music shop. The word clinic gets used a lot here. There are pet clinics, hair clinics, medical clinics, computer clinics and so on. One look at the place and you will see why we thought it was a guitar shop. It looked like a Hard Rock Café franchise!
Dr Matsumoto does everything a regular GP can do, but also specializes in diabetes, and managing weight, with a focus on heart, blood pressure and cholesterol. The staff are very cordial and professional. Conveniently, reservations can be made on a website, which also shows how many people are currently waiting to see the doctor. You can find out more about Matsumoto Clinic on this website (only available in Japanese language at this time).
Matsusaka is a centuries-old, traditional castle-town, but it’s great to see that along with other modern facilities (shopping centers, restaurants, cafés, schools, hospitals, gyms), it also has such a ‘cutting edge’ 21st century medical clinic.
