People use Blogs for a myriad of reasons, professional and personal. Personal Blogs are great medium for sharing whatever one is passionate about: travel, nature cooking, health, shopping, fashion, movies, music, art, writing, gaming, sport, or any other numerous hobbies that people love to talk about.
It was never my intention to be a ‘Blogger’, but for a writer especially, Blogging can be a wonderful way of expressing oneself and one’s ideas, as well as recording one’s own journey on the way to being a published author.
Unlike other more ‘professional’ writing Blogs, my Blog was never intended to be one that taught the art of writing, even though I have used my Blog to share what I have learned during the process of writing and editing my debut novel.
While I have usually Blogged about writing, or included an excerpt from Hideki’s Diary (a book within my upcoming novel, Gold of the Rising Sun), today I am writing about Blogs: Blogs about writing specifically.
Which Blogs have taught me the most about writing, and which Blogs do I rely on to help me achieve my dream of becoming a published author and full time writer? Let me point them out for you, and it goes without saying that I fully recommend these writing Blogs to all and anyone who are interested in pursuing either a career in writing, or simply a dream to have their own book published.
Writer’s Digest http://www.writersdigest.com
Writer’s Relief http://writersrelief.com
Writer’s Market http://www.writersmarket.com
These are the ‘big three’ as far as I’m concerned, and contain the most essential and most informative Blogs on writing. They are also the most prolific Blogs, and release new material with tips and advice on writing on pretty much a daily basis. It’s almost hard to keep up with! But it’s great to have at your fingertips.
Then there are the ‘Professional’ writing Blogs by published authors and those in the publishing industry:
Rob Parnell http://easywaytowrite.blogspot.jp
Clancy Tucker http://clancytucker.blogspot.com.au
Mike Wells http://mikewellsblog.blogspot.jp
Matthew Peters http://www.matthewpetersbooks.com
Nick Daws http://www.mywritingblog.com
Trent Steele http://www.writestreet.com/writestreet/
There are in fact thousands of writing Blogs ‘out there’ if you choose to Google them, tens of thousands in fact, the vast majority of them professional and informative. It’s just a matter of finding the ones that suit you. The ones that I have recommended above focus generally on writing, getting published, how to secure an agent, correct formats for your manuscript/articles, and so on.
However, if you require advice on specialist genres such as ‘horror’, ‘fantasy’, ‘sci-fi’, ‘e-books’, ‘self-publishing’, or ‘poetry’, etc, then other Blogs which focus on those specific tops might be more helpful.
One last point before I conclude – (just a short Blog today) – I also have a ‘Japan’ Blog as most of you probably know. And one of the best recommendations I can give you with regard to Blogs about Japan is that of my good friend, John Asano:
Blogs offer writers a different kind of medium through which to express their thoughts and opinions, and they offer readers a window into the world of writers and writing, whatever one’s preferred genre may be. I hope that you’ve found my Blog (so far) to be helpful and enjoyable. Please feel free to leave comments.
Wishing you a wonderful week, and a great year in 2015.
See you on the shelf!
